How eBay fees are calculated in 2026

When an item sells, eBay charges one final value fee. It has two parts:

    1. A percentage of the total amount of the sale, which includes the item price, the shipping and handling the buyer paid, and the sales tax. The percentage depends on the category and your Store level, and in most categories it drops to 2.35% above a per-item threshold.
    2. A per-order fee of $0.30 when the order total is $10.00 or less, or $0.40 when it's over $10.00.

On top of that you may pay: a Promoted Listings ad fee, the 1.65% international fee (unless you use eBay International Shipping), surcharges for Below Standard sellers or for a very high "item not as described" return rate, and optional listing upgrades. Top Rated Plus listings get 10% off the percentage part.

eBay handles payments, so there is no separate PayPal or card processing fee.

"Standard" covers sellers with no Store or a Starter Store. "Store" covers Basic, Premium, Anchor and Enterprise subscribers. Add the per-order fee to every sale.

    Worked example

Say you sell a used smartphone for $400 with free shipping, and the buyer pays 6% sales tax. The total sale is $424. With no Store, the fee is 13.6% × $424 = $57.66, plus the $0.40 per-order fee, for $58.06. With a Basic Store the phone rate is 9.35%, so the fee would be $39.64 + $0.40 = $40.04. That's $18.02 saved on one sale.

    Frequently asked questions

How much does eBay charge to sell an item in 2026?

For most categories, a seller without a Basic-or-higher Store pays a final value fee of 13.6% of the total sale (item price + shipping + sales tax) up to $7,500, then 2.35% on the portion above that, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 for orders of $10 or less or $0.40 for orders over $10. Some categories have different rates.

Does eBay charge fees on shipping and sales tax?

Yes. eBay calculates the final value fee on the total amount of the sale, which includes the shipping and handling the buyer pays and the sales tax eBay collects. The tax itself is passed on to the state, but the fee on it comes out of your payout.

Does an eBay Store lower my fees?

A Basic, Premium, Anchor or Enterprise Store unlocks lower final value fees in many categories — for example 9.35% instead of 13.6% for cell phones — but the cheaper rate stops at $2,500 per item instead of $7,500. A Starter Store pays the same rates as no Store. Use our Store break-even calculator to check whether the subscription pays for itself.

Is the Top Rated Plus discount applied to the whole fee?

No. The 10% Top Rated Plus discount applies to the percentage part of the final value fee only, not to the per-order fee and not to any "item not as described" surcharge.

Do Promoted Listings fees count as final value fees?

No. A general (pay-per-sale) Promoted Listings fee is charged in addition to the final value fee, as your chosen ad rate × the total sale amount, when the item sells within 30 days of a click on your ad.
